We will be going in October of 2023 so it won’t be too hot, too cold, or too crowded.

The retreat is seven nights total: Two nights in the wonderful city of Florence and five nights in the heart of the Tuscan countryside at Villa Lena. While at Villa Lena you will experience: daily yoga, two day trips, wine tasting, cooking classes, and more. See below for more details. We can’t wait to explore Tuscany with you!

FLOrENCE

Florence is the capitol city of the Tuscany region and home to some famous Renaissance art and architecture; think: Michelangelo’s “David” sculpture, Botticelli’s “The Birth of Venus”, and da Vinci’s “Annunciation.” It is also home to the iconic Duomo, which is a stunning sight.

We will spend two nights together enjoying the sights, art, and food. And of course, copious amounts of gelato. We will begin our full day together with a walking tour of the city and then you will be free to explore what you desire. We will reconnect for dinners at some wonderful local restaurants.

 

VILLA LENA

The Villa Lena estate is located in the Province of Pisa, secluded amongst 500 hectares of woodland, vineyards, olive groves and organic vegetable gardens. A 19th-century villa sits at the heart of the property, originally built for an Italian aristocratic family. It now houses the Villa Lena Foundation and artist-in-residence program. Surrounding the villa you can find, converted historic agricultural buildings—former farmhouses, stables and hunting lodges—house guest rooms, apartments and shared facilities.

We will spend five nights at Villa Lena. Here we will settle in and relax; enjoying yoga, good food, and good company. While at Villa Lena we will also enjoy a cooking class, pasta making class, wine tasting, and an art class. On two of the days that week we will explore some nearby towns:

 

LUCCA

Lucca is a city on the Serchio river in Italy’s Tuscany region. It is Italy’s most impressive fortress city. Its well-preserved Renaissance walls encircle the historic city center and its cobblestone streets. Broad, tree-lined pathways along the tops of these massive 16th- and 17th-century ramparts are popular for strolling and cycling. Lucca is uniquely undamaged by war and a delightful town to visit for the day.

SAN GIMIGNANO

San Gimignano is a classic Tuscan town. It is famous for its medieval towers. Fourteen of the original 72 towers remain today; the tallest of which visiters can climb. Although Tuscany is normally a red-wine region, the most famous Tuscan white wine comes from here: the inexpensive, light, and fruity Vernaccia di San Gimignano.

COVID-19

Full vaccination is required to attend. We will be asking all attendees to follow whatever the most up to date CDC recommendation for full vaccination is: ie booster shots. This serves two purposes: 1) Creates greater safety for all of us traveling and staying together for a week. 2) Ease of travel around Europe.

TRAVELERS INSURANCE

TRAVELERS INSURANCE IS HIGHLY ENCOURAGED. AS WE KNOW ALL TOO WELL, ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN. THERE IS THE POSSIBILITY OF GLOBAL PANDEMICS, STRIKES, UNEXPECTED ILLNESS, AND OTHER UNPLANNED EVENTS. THEREFORE, WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND TRAVELERS INSURANCE TO COVER ALL YOUR TRAVEL COSTS. IF YOU CHOOSE TO NOT PURCHASE TRAVELERS INSURANCE TO COVER THE COST OF THE RETREAT AND YOUR OTHER TRAVEL COSTS YOU ARE CHOOSING TO BE PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE AND UNDERSTAND NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED AFTER DATES LISTED ABOVE.

The policy needs to cover your expenditures for the trip (including retreat cost, airfare, and any other planned expenses). It also should provide medical coverage and repatriation, in case of medical emergency. We recommend Travelex Insurance. Many travel insurance companies require you to purchase within a certain amount of time from paying for your trip, so please check carefully the requirements named through the insurance provider.
